Current Event Interview

Hello all, this week’s blog is on the current event interview. The current event I choose to present to my teacher was about clickers in the classroom. A link for the article is here http://nyti.ms/cGxN2v. Although my questions for her were based on this article I chose to also include how she felt on technology in the classroom in general. Her immediate response to clickers was she would love to have them in her classroom. She could see the benefit in how they could help keep her students accountable and at the same time she could see where they were with the material.  She believes that technologies like these could help students and teachers alike.
It was cool to see a teacher’s response to a current event such as this. I think with more and more teachers feeling technology betters their classroom, we could see a change to even more technologies like this. It will be neat to see where we go as a culture with teaching and technology.

Questions Observation

This week’s blog is on questions observation. This past week’s class involved more one on one time with the students. We helped them correct their writings. I would say that this week we observed most of questions posed by the teacher during their PE class. In this class setting the teacher would set the directions for the game and then have the students say answers to questions on the game he just described. He would ask things like, how do I carry my bowling pin? And the students would answer with two hands. I thought this was a nice way for the students to learn the directions and then in a way, repeat them so that they were ready to play the game. A question that was posed by a student was where should I place my bowling pin? The answer was inside of the designated playing area. So the main area of focus for questions on the student side was how they should play. While on the teacher side it was questions that involved thinking as to try and help the students remember the rules.

Lesson Clarity Observation

Hey, guys this week’s blog is on lesson clarity. Over the past few weeks of attending my scheduled aided I have been able to observe many ways the teacher uses lesson clarity. In some cases while the teacher is reading it seems as though she is using social interaction, in that she involves the students by asking questions about the story she reads. Sometimes their responses will be more on a social level, which is why I believe it is social interaction. In some ways she also uses funds of knowledge in allowing her students to write about things they know. While teaching her students to spell she encourages scaffolding, by helping when the students need the help and still allowing them to do the spelling. It’s very interesting to see some of these practices implemented into her teaching strategy.

Classroom Management

This week we were to observe classroom management, although it wasn’t possible for me to actually sit down and observe for the full 30 minutes this week I still have a grasp of how the teacher uses classroom management. My teacher uses some of her students to help her in the classroom. One example is when she has her students line up she has one person in the back to help lead the class out. It’s cool to see how she includes her students in her classroom management. It’s also neat to see how she will have the class work together. An example is when she has them do a spell aloud time and they all stand up and spell the weeks words together. It is very cool to observe new styles of classroom management.

The Interview

Hello, all. I’m writing today about the interview that I recently had with the teacher I have been assigned to. It was cool to see how she teaches and to get to know her a little. While in the interview with my partner we asked her a few questions. Some main answers that she gave us included that she has been teaching for 10 years now, my main focus of questions were regarding her philosophy of education. It was interesting to me that she couldn’t name the exact philosophy that she teaches by. But she did suggest that she changes depending on the student and the subject she is teaching. It was also cool to learn that this can change from year to year depending on the students in the class. This seemed to be straight forward to me, because all people learn differently. Overall my first visit and interview were a success.
